Get in Touch
Have a story? A question? Just want to say hello? This is the place.
Not sure where to start?
If you're thinking about reaching out about a story — yours, or a loved one's — here are a few ways people usually begin:
"I served with someone whose story should be told." Tell me a little about them. Name, unit, era, and what it is about them you think deserves to be remembered.
"I want to tell my own story, but I don't know how." You don't need to have it figured out. You don't need to write anything first. Just tell me what branch, what years, and one thing you've been carrying around. We'll have a conversation from there.
"My father/grandfather/husband served, and I'd like his story preserved." Sometimes the veteran is still with us and ready to talk; sometimes they're gone and we work from letters, photos, and family memory. Both are worth doing.
"I have an idea for a feature, or a piece of history I think BZO should cover." Send it over. Some of my best stories started this way.
I read every message personally. Response time is usually a few days, sometimes a week if I'm traveling or deep in a story. Anything you share is kept between us unless you specifically want it written about — and even then, nothing goes to print without your approval.
